Cocoon

Portola Valley, CA | 2022

This project focused on the idea of a multifunctional communal gathering space. At this maker’s marker, people could not only shop for produce, but also handmade goods. Shoppers are able to participate in various craft-centric classes, where they create items that are then sold back to aid the community. This tent-like structure contains a wooden armature system that was determined by connecting members at various points, and then creating surfaces between them. The cocoons are made of knitted propylene rope, and emphasis the idea of the maker as a cocoon is a made habitat. The cocoons are multifunctional as they create the programs and also the circulation through the market.
